What we offer

About us

Costume Junction is a family owned, family operated business. The founder, Dawn, always had a love of sewing costumes. She grew up watching her mother and grandmother sew and she always made her children’s Halloween costumes.

When her daughter was in third grade, she had a field trip to Bernard Museum in Auburn, CA. The Living History program, allows children to dress up in 1889 attire and participate in activities reminisce of that time period. At that time, Dawn, worked for the state however she was on furlough and had extra time on her hands.  Knowing that every 3rd grade child in the school, needed to dress up, she made up some pioneer dresses to sell.

The next school year, a school parent approached her about renting a costume. While she knew that renting the dresses was a possibility, she was nervous about it because she had a full time job. Since she knew the person inquiring about the rental, she took the chance and the rest is history. She continued to sew more dresses and to gather hats, suspenders and vests for the boys. She also had some handmade Indian costumes and some children’s Spanish costumes in her costume box that she offered up as rentals for other school programs.

When her daughter was in 5th grade, she started making colonial style dresses for the Walk thru American Revolution program. After sewing and sewing, she had a nice inventory built up and she started offering the rentals to neighboring schools. Before long, she was the “go to” person for the school programs in the area as there were no local costume rental stores and her costumes were better quality than those found on the internet and it was convenient and affordable for parents.

In the meantime, she made and collected all types of costumes for adults and children. In 2015, she asked her mother to partner with her to open the store. The costume collection grows on a continuous basis and includes costumes for all occasions.
